After living over 40 years on this planet I have come to the conclusion that there are simply two types of people. There are people who save money, and people who don’t. If you are someone who finds it easy to save then these tips are not for you. But if you are one of the many people who try and try to save up money but never seem to manage to be able to, then I have some simple tips that will help you be on your way to savings.
Save money on Food. We eat every day and must do so, but how we do it is a core way most of us manage to waste a lot of money. It starts by putting in more time at the grocery store and skipping eating out more often. But once you make your way to the supermarket it is critical to choose your grocery list carefully and with sales in mind. One big advantage of focusing on discounted items is the fact that you will have an easier time keeping meals more interesting over time because your meals will be more dictated by whats deeply discounted than what you may or may not be craving that day. Also, make sure to look at unit prices when you are buying things that come in ounces and volume. Most groceries will display the breakdown of savings if you by a larger amount depending on your needs.
Honor that a penny saved is a penny earned. It might sound silly to think that you can save your way to meaningful amounts by saving all your spare change on a weekly basis, but the reality is that frugal people count the small stuff, and discipline in one area of your fiscal life will bleed over into other areas. Saving is a mindset and if a penny matters so will a dollar, and so on. Make sure not to worry about the people around you while you worry about counting out your cash either, let them head home and swipe their cards while they continue to live paycheck to paycheck.
Embrace the DIY. Services are the lifeblood of the modern economy. Sometimes those services are well worth it and depending on the specialty you could even save time and money by hiring someone. But for instance, if you have a housekeeper, it is time for you to start cleaning your house yourself and pocketing that money. Any maintenance that you have services take care of you should seriously consider moving over them over to your new responsibility. It will help you far more than you think.
